    Description

Yoga Class given by Dechen Thurman and Jessica Sage Stickler. A HUGE thank you to both of them! At one point, the participants were asked to kick into the air. They channeled such energy, the wind began to blow fiercely! It was magical!

National Animal Rights Day 2, June 3rd, 2012, Union Square, NYC.
Every year in the United States, 10 billion land animals and 20 billion sea animals are killed for food. An additional 10
million die in laboratories and 3 million are killed for their skin and fur. It is estimated that another 200 million are killed by
hunters. The consumption of animal products directly contributes to the development of many diseases, including obesity, heart
attack, stroke, kidney disease, many cancers, and even diabetes. Additionally, animal agriculture is responsible for more
greenhouse gas emissions than all forms of transportation, combined. Switching to a plant-based diet and lifestyle makes sense
for human health, the planet, and billions of animals.
    Program included:
    1. A silent ceremony to commemorate the billions of animals who lose their lives every year in the US for
human consumption and amusement. 12:00 pm
    2. People signing the 50 foot long (!!) Declaration of Animal Rights. 12:30 pm
    3. A free, open-to-all, yoga class led by the renowned Jivamukti Yoga teachers Dechen Thurman (actress
Uma Thurman’s brother) and Jessica Sage Stickle, to generate compassion for all beings and the planet 12:30-1:30 pm
    4. Live music, drum circles, Street theatre, Capoeira, and art by:
The Living Theatre, The Occuponics, Tommy Fox and the OWS drummers, SUPERCUTE!, Jason Trachtenburg,
Jenn Friedman, Melanie Sirois, All Our Friends, Lunic, Abada Capoeira, Eu Jogo Capoeira, and more! 1:30-5 pm
    5. Free delicious vegan food!

A great big thank you to Greg Straight Edge of Exercise Compassion for building the incredible frame/stand for the Declaration of Animal Rights!
