    Osteoporosis

    Osteoporosis is a progressive condition that is characterised by the thinning of bones. In this condition, there is a loss of the bone mineral density that ,makes the bones thin, fragile and brittle. Such bones are easily breakable and hence, one becomes very susceptible to fractures, especially of the hip, spine, wrist and shoulders.

    Recipes based on the above food groups:

    Recipe 1: Salmon & cucumber salad

    1. Peel and chop ½ cucumber in a bowl
    2. Add 1 tsp chopped jalapeno
    3. Now, chop and add 1 tbsp coriander leaves
    4. Next add 2 tsp chopped mint leaves
    5. Mix all these ingredients well and rest aside
    6. Take 1 tsp olive oil in a small bowl
    7. Add 1 tsp soy sauce
    8. 1 tsp lemon juice
    9. Also add salt and pepper to taste
    10. Mix this well
    11. Now, take 100 gm salmon and rub it with 1 tsp lemon juice,
    salt and pepper
    12. Cook this piece on a non-stick pan till it’s done on both
    sides for about 5-8 min
    13. Next, add the prepared dressing on the fish
    14. Allow the fish to cook for a minute so that it can absorb the
    flavor
    15. Finally, serve it with the prepared cucumber salad on the
    side
    16. Your tasty and healthy dinner dish is ready

    Recipe 2: Finger millet dish

    1. Take ½ cup split black lentil (urad dal) in a bowl
    2. Add 1 tbsp fenugreek seeds to this
    3. Soak it in 2 cups of water for about 2-3 hours
    4. Now grind this to make a fine paste
    5. Next, take 1 cup of finger millet flour in a big bowl
    6. Add the black lentil and fenugreek paste to it
    7. Also add 3 cups of water and stir till everything is mixed well

    This should have a dosa batter consistency. Now we have keep this batter overnight for fermentation

    8. Next spread and heat 1 tsp oil on a non stick pan
    9. Take spoonful of dosa batter and spread evenly on the pan
    10. Put 1 tsp oil or clarified butter (ghee) at the edges of the
    dosa
    11. Cook it for 1 min and remove in a plate
    12. Serve hot with coconut chutney

    This calcium rich dosa is a healthy and filling breakfast item

    • Refrain from drinking alcohol as it interferes with calcium
    absorption
