    Masturbation And Bodybuilding?

Although it might seem funny on the surface, I actually receive questions about masturbation and bodybuilding on a very consistent basis. People are always asking me « does masturbation affect muscle growth », or, « does masturbating lower testosterone levels ».

Well, what’s the real answer here? Is masturbation bad for muscle growth and strength gains?

At the end of the day, always keep in mind that just because something lowers testosterone levels does NOT mean that it will actually negatively affect your bodybuilding results. Testosterone levels have to be lowered by quite a bit before you’ll actually see any direct effects on your gains.

Even though masturbation does temporarily reduce test levels in the few hours following, those levels rise back up fairly quickly, and over the course of 24 hours or so it will basically just balance itself out.

So, in terms of overall effects on muscle growth, bodybuilding and masturbation isn’t really something that you need to be concerned with.

The only time this could be an area of concern is in the case of pre-workout masturbation. Some people find that they experience fatigue and lower levels of energy following ejaculation, and in that case, you’ll probably want to avoid masturbating in the few hours leading up to the workout in order to make sure that your energy levels and focus are at their peak.

Other than that, masturbation and muscle growth is not going to be an issue in terms of its effects on testosterone. Besides, if that were the case, then regular sex would also be something you’d need to avoid. If you’re willing to abstain from sex just for a few extra percent of muscle growth, then you may want to re-evaluate your priorities 🙂 .
