Find your voice as a Group Fitness instructor

Video

Description

Every Monday I am sharing some instructor tips for being successful leading group fitness classes. Teaching Group Fitness Classes isn’t always easy so today I am sharing some of the strategies I’ve learned and developed over my teaching career that will help you lead classes with more ease.

1. Be Authentic: While its great to have a favorite instructor that you want to emulate. Just make sure you aren’t trying to be them. You have your own unique personality and experiences and being authentic will help you be more successful in connecting with your students.

2. Be authoritative: you are the instructor. You have learned what you need to know in order to teach so make sure you enter the room as a leader and lead the class.

3. Teach from your experiences: Take your education and share your passion.

4. Teach to the positive: Want your class to go left tell them to go left. Avoid telling your classes what not to do – instead teach to the result that you want. Don’t forget to keep it simple as well.

5. Less is more. Try to avoid over explaining – keep it short and simple.

6. Keep a log or a journal of what works and doesn’t work. This will help you evaluate and improve your teaching. It also helps expand your vocabulary.

7. Use that journal to challenge yourself to not be so repetitive.
